Healthy Homemade Veggie Dumplings:

After a celebratory birthday dinner on Friday night at Locanda Verde , I couldn’t imagine leaving my apartment last night.  My husband and I had a much needed night in which included watching Black Fish, the killer whale special on CNN (long story short, NEVER go to Sea World), and making homemade veggie dumplings.  A few of you asked for me to share the recipe, so here goes!

What You’ll Need:

1 package of dumpling wrappers, Shanghai style if possible. You can get these from a Chinese market.

1 cup of chopped carrots

1 cup of finely chopped cabbage

1/2 cup of chopped scallions

1/2 cup of chopped bean sprouts

1 egg white for binding

1 TBSP of minced garlic

1 TBSP of pureed ginger (you can buy this in a jar at most markets)

1 TBSP of sesame seed oil

 

 

How To Prepare:

Combine all of the veggies in a bowl and mix in the garlic, ginger, oil and egg white.

Deposit a small amount of the mixture into each wrapper and pinch to form a beggar’s purse.

Put the dumplings into a pot of salted water until it boils.

 

Dip the dumplings into soy sauce or hoisin sauce and enjoy!
